BOOK 0111: THE PARABLE OF THE PRODIGAL ONE

1. Tiresias continued: "There was a man who had a one and a zero..

2. The one said to the man, 'Give me my share of the estate.' So he divided his property between the one and the zero..

3. The one immediately set off for a distant country and there squandered his one-ness in wild living.

4. He repeated himself over and over again until there was nothing but the endless repetitions of one, one, one, one.

5. He was relegated to counting bodies going through a turnstile – one after another.

6. People passed him every day and he counted, but remained empty.

7. The one began to think of the man he had left. He had felt full and content with the man.

8. The one thought, I will return to that man and say “I have sinned against heaven and against you.” I am no longer worthy to be called a one – do with me as you would.”

9. The one left the turnstile and its mindless counting and returned to the man.

10. He fell at the man’s feet and said, “I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called a one – do with me as you would.”

11. The man was filled with compassion for the one and welcomed the one back.

12. The man said quick, wrap the one in the finest and best microprocessor we can find. Give him memory, give him speed, give him gigabytes.

13. “Let us revel in the one’s return.”

14. Meanwhile the zero was in the circuit board and entered when she saw the one coursing by her.

15. She asked the man, “What is going on?”

16. “Your counterpart, the one, has returned. And we are celebrating.” The man replied.

17. The zero became angry and refused to join in the digital copulation, so the man pleaded with her.

18. The zero cried out, “For all those years as the one counted at the turnstile, I’ve sat here in digital oblivion, a big fat nothing. The one returns and you break out new circuitry, new hardware, new memory. Was I not good enough for you?”

19. The man replied, “All these things are yours as well – the new circuitry, the new hardware, the new memory. Without the one, you were nothing, but without you, the one is nothing. For the one’s return we rejoice because you are now binary and digital and all creation shall stream forth from your digital loins. So rejoice in the return of the one. Be fruitful and multiply. Your progeny shall be the world. So celebrate and be glad.”
